perfect polpette

(beyond 3)

I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina but I was a voluptuous little Italian girl whose dad had meatballs on the table every night.

If these are prawns, I can’t imagine what size the lobsters might be.

day one – Liverpool

Late afternoon arrival in Liverpool, we were in our smart little apartment rental near Lime Street by 4pm. The Trans Pennine Express from Glasgow Central doesn’t feel particularly express like, but it was direct and just over a three and a half hours journey.

We decided on La Famiglia for dinner. It was close by and it’s just a stone’s throw from the city centre. It’s an Italian bar and restaurant, with a definite Sardinian influence.

We had booked online a couple of hours before and when we arrived it was empty. One of those occasions when you think about walking on and finding somewhere else. So glad we didn’t, and an hour later if was almost full.

We had the home made meatballs to share as our starter (Polpette della Nonna Al Sugo). Seriously, might these just be the best meatballs in the world? Best I’ve ever tasted. Mains were a Pinsa Parma & Rucola – a deceptively large 7″ Roman style pizza, and Prawns wrapped in Parma Ham – massive and delicious. There are a selection of Sardinian desserts; hats off to you if you can manage these after two courses.

This was a lucky little find.
