(beyond 2)
Without perestroika, the cold war simply would not have ended. But the world could not continue developing as it had, with the stark menace of nuclear war ever present.

I thought it a little strange that we should visit Scotland’s Secret Bunker on the day Mikhail Gorbachev died, the man who had the vision to end the Cold War
Here are some extras from yesterday’s visit.

Above ground as we made our way out, we came across this.

This is the S-75 Dvina, a Soviet designed, high altitude air defence system, built around a surface to air missile with command guidance. It was first deployed in 1957 and it became one of the most used air defence systems in history. It is still used today. Current operators include China, Egypt, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan and Syria.
If what you have done yesterday still looks big to you, you haven’t done much today.
